No mistakes, only happy accidents
and why consulting was one of those “happy accidents”
My favourite opening line when introducing myself.
Within consulting circles it was my attempt at being charming and memorable, but outside of it I was also low-key and high-key reassuring myself that even though I was a consultant, I still had my creative roots
Often envied my peers in more prestigious positions in the art & design world. And here I was a corporate shill
Had to be intentional and make space for maintaining that creative practice, externally and internally
While freelancing on the side was fun, it wasn’t the most sustainable
Coping mechanisms
Finding opportunities for Creative and Design within the context of Consulting (after all isn’t that the nature of creativity - finding the solutions within constraints)
Teaching others my craft
Building out the Talent Model for a Design Strategist in the hopes that those who follow me can speed-run what was a painful process at learning to foster that multidisciplinary culture
I got excited when we did manage to win cool projects (e.g. AlUla)
I still don’t have it perfect
There is no ‘perfect place’. Grass is greener where you water it
No regrets
