No mistakes, only happy accidents

and why consulting was one of those “happy accidents”

  • My favourite opening line when introducing myself.

  • Within consulting circles it was my attempt at being charming and memorable, but outside of it I was also low-key and high-key reassuring myself that even though I was a consultant, I still had my creative roots

  • Often envied my peers in more prestigious positions in the art & design world. And here I was a corporate shill

  • Had to be intentional and make space for maintaining that creative practice, externally and internally

  • While freelancing on the side was fun, it wasn’t the most sustainable

  • Coping mechanisms

    • Finding opportunities for Creative and Design within the context of Consulting (after all isn’t that the nature of creativity - finding the solutions within constraints)

    • Teaching others my craft

    • Building out the Talent Model for a Design Strategist in the hopes that those who follow me can speed-run what was a painful process at learning to foster that multidisciplinary culture

  • I got excited when we did manage to win cool projects (e.g. AlUla)

  • I still don’t have it perfect

  • There is no ‘perfect place’. Grass is greener where you water it

  • No regrets
